GILCHRIST THE EVEREST

Its a disappointing news that one of the worlds entertaining batsman have left the cricket world.Gilchrist made his debut 15 years ago for NSW when Glenn McGrath was also unveiled and a young Ricky Ponting belted a century for Tasmania. Australia vice-captain Adam Gilchrist stunned the cricketing world on Saturday when he announced he was retiring from all forms of the game.Gilchrist said he was quitting Test cricket after the current match against India ends at Adelaide Oval on Monday and One-day internationals at the end of the forthcoming triangular series against India and Sri Lanka.Gilchrist's shock announcement came just one day after he broke the world record for the most Test dismissals by a wicketkeeper and declared he had no plans of retiring. He is the fifth senior Australian player to retire in the past 14 months, following Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, Justin Langer and Damien Martyn. A rare miss from this superb wicket keeper who, in same test match, had broken world record for most catches plus stumpings by any wicketkeeper ever in test cricket's history. 24 hours later - Adam Gilchrist announces retirement from International cricket.Gilchrist is the only wicketkeeper in history to play three cricket world cup finals in a row. and what more - he scored half centuries in first two & then a century in 2007 world cup (149 off 104 balls) which sealed the cup for the team from downunder.Adam Gilchrist holds the record for most test match and oneday international catches plus stumpings which is equal to dismissals by a wicket keeper. 416 and 454 respectively (as of 1 Feb 2008). Interestingly, 'c Gilchrist b McGrath' was a mode to dismiss 90 batsmen in test cricket, only second to 'c Rodney Marsh b Dennis Lillee' which happened 95 times.Gilchrists fans were disappointed that he have left the cricket world. He has lead his team to victory for many times.WE MISS YOU GILLY................
